Ryan Minion

Hi my name is Ryan Minion and I'm a member of the Derby Karate Academy and the Wado-kai England National squad. I have been training in karate for since 2001.

In March 2010 I entered Wado-kai interclub championships in Hartlepool, where I won four gold medals in the fighting, kata, pairs and team events. It was long day for the club but it was also an enjoyable one.

In May 2010 I entered the Aiwakai nationals, where I won 3 gold 2 silver and 1 bronze medals in also the fighting, kata, pairs and team event. In some of the cases I moved up a category and still got awarded a gold.

At the end of May I had another competition, as I entered into the central England competition where I won 1 gold and 3 silvers in kata, individuals, pairs and team. This was a shorter day than other comps but we all still tried hard.

My next competition was on 27th June 2010 which I entered into the 14th Central England open karate championships. In this comp we were up agaisnt many other styles of karate including our own (Wado-Ryu). However I came away from the comp with 1 gold in team kata and 1 bronze in pairs kata.

My next competitions were the all Japan nationals and the World Championships which were held on the 14-15th of August, and 21st-22nd of August, in Japan. It was a great experience being in Japan, both in and out the competitions and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I tried very hard and I won 2 bronze medals and received 2 commendations for being a finalist in the World Championships and I was thrilled.

My first competition after the worlds in Japan was on the 10th of October 2010 which I entered in the Mushindo Wado Kai British Wado Kata Championships Which I won 3 gold medals in individual, team and pair events. We took 11 club members to the competion and came away with 23 medals. We also came joint first with another club for most successful club, and they took about 30 people so I think we did extremly well for a club.
My plans for the future is to take part and compete in more competitions building up for the Europian championships in 2011.
